Match Report
Sunday 11th November 2001 v Liverpool Hope at Newsham Park
The first match of the season is always a big one, but even more so when you line up against your local rivals - Liverpool Hope! Being our first match this year everyone was interested in how the new team would work together, and after the first 15 minutes the question was answered - very hard and very well. As always against Hope, it was a hard fought match with the defence working well together, stopping the Hope balls dead and clearing the lines with confidence, with Genevieve Campbell commanding the back line of Aisling Devlin and Nicola Doherty superbly. A special well done to Laura Hewitt in goal who was very impressive for her first ever game! The midfield of Caroline Digby and Donna Ferguson ran continuously for the whole game, keeping their opposite numbers in check throughout the match, whilst putting the balls forward for conversion by the forward lines. The forwards worked hard, proving points and goals to be no problem throughout the match, with Fiona McCarney and Rosie Molloy notching up the scores, and well done to Aine O'Hara and Edel Mason performing well in their first match for us. It was a good, confident all round team performance with JMU winning 6-6 to 2-5. Well done to the girls for the effort and the performance was brilliant. Next match 24th November against Birmingham's Newman College. (Leanne Tucker) |
